MTV has been long dead as a go-to for watching music videos. That doesn't mean they've stopped being made! Or being awesome! Here's four new videos by stellar artists that are as fun to watch as they are to listen to.
Willow Smith - Whip My Hair
If you haven't heard the first single from Willow Smith (yes, that Willow Smith), you've been missing out on this pint-sized pixie and her killer debut pop song (but good luck getting it out of your head).
Willow's video is a breath of fresh air from other tween stars--it's not about getting a dude, it's about being confident and loving yourself (see: mash-up with Sesame Street's "I Love My Hair"). Willow's all smiles and exuberance, and she breaks up the bland conformity of her classroom with the whip of her hair. And she's so. adorable.
Britta Persson - Toast to M
For the video of Swedish chanteuse Britta Persson's new single (off of Current Affair Medium Rare), take a romp through a sunny, secluded forest spot to watch the band materialize out of disco pixie dust! The lyrics are pretty dark but everything else screams pop: na-na-nas, handclaps, and rainbow magic.
MEN - Off Our Backs
Rivaling Robyn's new video in the SEXXXAY category, the dance jam "Off Our Backs" is gonna make you wanna take all kinds of cold showers (but is technically Safe For Work). It also might cause you to wonder how you never realized how erotic tug-of-war is. Am I missing something about Red Rover as well?
La Sera - Never Come Around
Released in time for Halloween, La Sera (the new band of Vivian Girls' Katy Goodman) flipped the gender switch on the serial killer B-movies with this campy but oddly hilarious video. It's a new, dreamy, pop sound from Goodman and I'm looking forward to more of it (but maybe less dancing dismembered bodies).
What have you been watching or listening to lately?
