Bitchtapes: Sharkmuffin's Endless Summer

bitchtapes feminist mixtapes

This Endless Summer mix was made by members of Brooklyn-based band Sharkmuffin (Tarra Thiessen, Natalie Kirch, Sharif Mekawy and Davey Jones, to be exact) for all the days we will be chilling at the Jersey Shore. The playlist includes a ton of Brooklyn bands we love like Granny, Babyacid, Slothrust, Charly Bliss, Pill, BOYTOY, Sideasideb, Haybaby, and even has an iPhone recording from our friend Janeth Gonda. The first two tracks are previously unreleased demos by our friends Daywalkers & Fruit & Flowers. We also included our favorite tracks from Sleater-Kinney, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, abd Cibo Matto, plus songs from The White Stripes & The Velvet Underground that feature their drummers on vocals. The mix goes from chill to upbeat to somber, like any endless summer would.

About the mix-makers:  Brooklyn based garage rock trio Sharkmuffin creates super-heavy, jagged, and exceedingly catchy punk rock, which recently was named by Billboard as being one of the “20 All-Female Bands You Need to Know.” Experienced guitarist Tarra Theissen (vocals/guitar) and Natalie Kirch (vocals/bass) jammed in punk paradise Asbury Park in 2012 and have continued to play together since.

I was wondering if you'd thought about also adding the mixtapes to Spotify?

What do you think of Spotify?

Hi! Actually, I have thought a lot about using Spotify. I'm interested—what do you think about running our mixtapes on Spotify? I like 8tracks because the mixes are embeddable on our website, so people don't have to be a member of the service to listen to them. A while ago, I looked into cross-posting the mixes on Spotify, but then read reports about how Spotify is bad for artists and screws them over financially in a way, so it seemed like a site we should think twice before investing in. So! Do you use Spotify and do you think it would be a good fit for Bitch?
