Genesis: Issue 40, Summer 2008
Art Director: Briar Levit
Photographer: Sarah Henderson
Our Genesis issue aimed to encompass a lot on its cover: Conception, growth, myth, religion, real and fake, science and nature. Summing up a word so multifacted seemed to call for literal facets. The beautiful, found-in-the natural-world form of a star or crystal, made from paper from different sources, was our solution. Getting it made, however, was more dramatic than we anticipated. Our first origami artist loved the piece she made so much she held it hostage, forcing us to commission a second from artist Claire Christiansen. In the end, though, we had a beautiful object, and our only worry was that a two-dimensional cover photograph just wouldn't do it justice.
We've only got six of these prints left, so buy yours now before the genesis of your regret sets in! (Get it?)
