On Our Radar: Feminist News Roundup

Here's all the news on our radar today:

• A new report shows how much gentrification has remade the Bay Area landscape: Between 1990 and 2011, rents in some San Francisco neighborhoods jumped 40 percent. [Colorlines]

• Leah Green took real-life sexual harassment incidents reported to @EverydaySexism and recreated them on the streets of London with the gender roles reversed. Her video of the results is meant to show how women often see sexism as a "normal" part of life but it's very strange for men to be put in the same position. [Guardian]

• David Letterman is stepping down from his coveted late-night chair. Who should fill his spot? Amanda Hess argues that the network should go ahead and appoint a white guy as his successor: women and people of color are making great comedy not on late night TV. [Slate]

• Good news! Medicare and Social Security will now automatically recognize same-sex marriages and will allow transgender indviduals to automatically collect benefits through their spouses. [Autostraddle]

• The Supreme Court passed on hearing any appeal to the New Mexico case of a wedding photographer who refused to shoot a same-sex wedding, leaving intact the charge that the photographer illegally discriminated against the couple. [LA Times]

• I love the short comics that artist Suzy X makes for Rookie mag—this week's is a sweet little vignette about headphones and breakups. [Rookie]

• I was feeling kind of disappointed about the 21st century until I read this headline: MIA and Janelle Monae performed a duet together as holograms. Yep. We live in the future. [Pitchfork]
