That's a hulk of a statement, Mr. Hogan

In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, Hulk Hogan says he can empathize with OJ Simpson, alluding to the 1994 murders of Simpson's wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her boyfriend Ronald Goldman. Hogan and his wife, Linda Bollea (Hogan's real name), split up in November 2007 when Bollea filed for divorce. She has since started dating a much younger man, which apparently angers Hogan to the point of making the extremely douchey claim that he "could have turned everything into a crime scene, like OJ, cutting everybody's throat". Of course, since his statements have subsequently received a lot of backlash, Hogan is out to assure the masses that his words were nothing but empathetic. Clearly, there is more to it than that, sir.

Since his admissions in Rolling Stone, Hogan has been in damage control mode, stating that he does not "condone" Simpson's behaviors, he can simply see how seeing your ex-partner with someone new could drive a man to murder (Simpson was acquitted of murder charges in 1995). Really? Murder? Bollea began dating Charley Hill, who is 20 years of age, in the summer of 2008. In November 2008, Hill filed for a restraining order against Hogan after he allegedly followed Hill in his car. Stalking? Sympathizing with OJ? I'm thinking Bollea is not regretting filing for divorce.

Hogan has been in the pro-wrestling industry for over 20 years. It is no secret that there are people out there that idolize and look up to pro wrestlers, young men included. I suppose one would have to be fairly aggro to be a wrestler in the first place, although it is also no secret that wresting is a staged "sport". However, Hogan's claims are harmful, no matter his subsequent excuses or smoothing over of his words. Hogan needs to truly man up and accept that things happen, relationships end, but that does not mean you can use your beefy biceps or aggravation to strike fear into the people who emotionally hurt you.

These comments are not to be taken lightly. If he made a comment empathizing with violence towards blacks he would be faced with a huge problem, but because violence against women is more acceptable he can go on making a career with people idolizing him.
